A diesel engine (also known as a compression-ignition engine) is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber. This is in contrast to spark-ignition engines such as a petrol engine (gasoline engine) or gas engine (using a gaseous fuel as opposed to gasoline), which uses a spark plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture. The diesel engine has the highest thermal efficiency of any regular internal or external combustion engine due to its very high compression. Low-speed diesel engines (as used in ships and other applications where overall engine weight is relatively unimportant) can have a thermal efficiency that exceeds 50%.

COMBUSTION CHAMBER

Direct injection in open type combustion chamber provided in an aluminum alloy piston with long stem multi hole nozzle results into low fuel consumption and easy starting.

FUEL SYSTEM

High Speed diesel is supplied to the fuel pump by gravity feed through an efficient replaceable paper element type main filter. Industrial type double bowl heavy duty type filter BOSH make also available.

LUBRICATION

Engine’s moving parts are lubricated by force feed and partly by splash lubrication. A throwaway type bypass filter is provided for filtering the lubricating oil. Lube. Oil is supplied under constant pressure by lube. Oil pump. Centrifigal type Lube. Oil cleaner also available for long engine life.

GOVERNING

A sensible mechanical centrifugal type governor mounted on the camshaft gear. Speed variation is controlled within limits to comply with class B1 governing as per IS: 10001 (GENERAL PURPOSE)

COOLING

Engine is continuously cooled by flow of water. Either by Radiator mounted on engine or direct water supply. Front radiator mounted engines also available.

ROTATION

Standard rotation is clockwise looking at fly wheel. Engine with reverse rotation can also be provided on demand.

STARTING

The engine is designed for starting by hand. Electric Start Provision can also be provided against specific reauirement. Dynamo battery chargers also available.

Open type combustion chamber in an aluminum alloy Piston, in combination with ling stem nozzle, resulting in low fuel consumption and easy starting.

Fuel System:

Fuel is supplied to the fuel pump by gravity feed from the fuel tank and through an efficient paper element filter.

Lubrication:

246 g / k Wh (180 g / bhp - h) at 1500 rpm full load.

Engine moving parts are lubricated, partly by force feed and partly by splash lubrication.

Lube. Oil Sump Capacity:

1.5 liter at higher level mark on dipstick.

Lube. Oil Consumption:

1% of fuel consumption.

Cooling:

Class "B1" for industrial applications.

Rotation:

Standard direction of rotation of clockwise from the flywheel end.

Starting:

Hand start with cranking handle.
